Goodman Company Recalls Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps Due to Fire Hazard
Recall Summary
Name of Product: Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner/Heat Pump (PTAC) Units
Hazard: The outdoor fan motor can overheat, posing a fire hazard.
Remedy: Repair
Consumers should immediately contact Goodman to participate in the corrective action plan. Non-commercial owners will receive free installation of the repair by an authorized technician. Commercial owners are being contacted directly and will be provided with free repair kits.

Recall Details
Units: 534,000
Description: This recall involves PTACs sold under the Goodman, Amana, York International, and Energy Knight brand names that were manufactured with certain condenser fan motors. Recalled PTAC models begin with the following prefixes: EKTC15, EKTH15, PMC15, PMH12, PMH15, PTC15, PTH12, PTH15, UCYB15, and UCYH15. Only units with the first four digits of the serial numbers in the range between 1001 and 1709 are affected. The model number and serial number are located on a label behind the front cover of the unit.
Incidents/Injuries: Goodman has received 9 reports of fires, including one reported incident involving smoke inhalation.
Sold Through: Goodman and heating and cooling dealers nationwide between January 2010 and January 2018 for between $700 and $1400.

Some of the PTAC units that have serial numbers in the range between 1001 and 1709 have had the PTAC Motor Shield Kit installed in the factory prior to shipment. Those units can be identified by a blue dot located on the packaging label, and on the PTAC unit as shown below.
